CES 2022: Highlights And Innovations Of The Technology Fair
Although numerous exhibitors canceled CES 2022 in advance, the technology fair opened its doors this year despite the Corona situation. There is no shortage of innovations. Microsoft, Google, Meta, Amazon, T-Mobile, Hisense, Intel, General Motors and many other industry giants stayed away from the CES this year due to the corona situation or moved their fair trade presence to the Internet.
But for the Consumer Electronics Show organizers in Las Vegas, the motto was apparently “The Show Must Go On”. Because after the CES had already failed last year, they probably didn’t want to miss the technology break a second time. To what extent this will affect the spread of any virus mutations, or whether there will even be an in-house Vegas variant, cannot be said at this point.
What can be seen from CES so far is good News. Because although the visitor masses this year did not come close to the level of the years before Corona, the number of exciting new products is surprisingly high.
The New Televisions At CES 2022
In principle, the relevant TV manufacturers Samsung, LG and Sony also represent “higher, faster, further” this year. Sony announced eight new model series, seven of them 4K and one 8K TV. The highlight among the new models is the A95K, which works with so-called quantum dots. Sony builds tiny crystals into an OLED panel and thus wants to achieve brighter and more color-intensive images. The screen diagonals range from 43 inches to 85 inches, the exact prices for all new products are still open.
Samsung showed its new Neo-QLED televisions with partly new wall brackets that rotate the screens by 90 degrees at the push of a button and are ideally positioned for vertical content. In addition, some models offer an “eye comfort” mode, which, similar to smartphones, should reduce brightness and the proportion of blue light if the environment allows it. The idea of creating a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFT), through which Samsung TV owners can buy individual digital pieces of images, is a little wilder.
According to The Verge, the new remote controls, the Samsung, are much more worldly and want to include some devices in the future. With these, changing batteries should be a thing of the past, as the snaps charge themselves via radio waves. At LG, things are getting bigger because, for the first time, the manufacturer is bringing two models with 42 and 97 inches(world’s first 97-inch OLED panel).
Computers, Laptops And Gaming
Gamers and home office enthusiasts will also get their money’s worth with the products of CES 2022. With the Odyssey Neo G8, Samsung presented the world’s first 4K mini led display with 240 Hertz. On the other hand, Asus brought 42 and 48-inch gaming screens to Las Vegas.
Razer, Lenovo and Asus will also be showing at CES 2022 that newer laptops are bursting with power. At Razer, this is done in extensive product maintenance for the Blade series, and Lenovo presented two new Thinkpads with AMD Ryzen 6000 processors.
The Asus ROG Flow Z13 looks like a Microsoft Surface Pro; thanks to the Nvidia Geforce GTX 3050 Ti and Intel’s Alder Lake processors, it offers significantly more performance. Asus even has a price for the power pack of around 1,900 euros when the device hits the market in the second quarter.
AMD and Intel used the CES to present numerous new processors. For the first time, AMD showed the Ryzen 7000, Intel’s fresh Alder Lake chips, which can be understood as the answer to Apple’s powerful M processors, especially in the mobile sector.
Players who prefer a console should be happy about Sony’s announcement that PlayStation VR 2 is in the starting blocks. There are still no pictures of the virtual reality headset, but initial information was provided about the technology. VR 2 supports haptic feedback, tracking of eye movements, 4K HDR, a field of view of 110 degrees and a display with up to 120 Hertz.
CES 2022: Smartphones, Neglected
For fans of new smartphones, the fact that the CES does not come close to the Mobile World Congress (February 29 – March 3, 2022) regarding mobile innovations. So if you are waiting for the big wave of announcements in this segment, you have to be patient until the end of February. Only the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G and the Oneplus 10 Pro made it to CES this year.
The new upper-class model from Samsung again bears the addition “Fan Edition” and extends the S21 family. It offers a 6.4-inch screen, Snapdragon 888 processor and Android 12, including Samsung’s new user interface, OneUI 4.0.
With the 10 Pro, Oneplus is initially only bringing a smartphone for China that works with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This is a system-on-a-chip with ARMv9 cores. According to the manufacturer, the performance should have increased by around 20 per cent compared to the Snapdragon 888, and at the same time, 30 percent less energy is required.
1000 And 1 Concept
At the beginning of CES 2022, it quickly became apparent that Mercedes had positioned itself firmly with the EQXX. Aside from the 1000-kilometer concept, there were also other exciting innovations. A few years after the presentation of the first concept vehicle, Sony announced that the group has real ambitions when it comes to electric cars and is now working specifically on a production vehicle.
The Vision S02 brought further proof of this and presented a vehicle that should offer space for seven people. The SUV relies on an all-wheel drive with 400 kilowatts of power and provides enough sensors for autonomous driving at level 2+. According to Sony, however, they want to enable level 4, i.e. fully automated driving without human intervention.
It’s Still Brightest At Home
The Consumer Electronics Show wouldn’t be itself if it weren’t for numerous new gadgets for the intelligent home. So put Sengled before a smart bulb that can recognize the state of health of people.
Withings has a similar concept with a scale. The Body Scan for around 300 euros can identify weight and the general state of health of the weighing person and even divide the body into individual zones. Among other things, it shows blood vessel age and heart rate and creates an electrocardiogram.
Roborock wants to ensure a clean apartment with a new vacuum robot that first vacuums and wipes the booth and then cleans itself in a station that even cleans the cleaning rag. This is to avoid manual cleaning every time the robot passes through. Therefore, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra costs around 1,400 euros and is a genuine luxury product.
If you prefer to clean your teeth instead of floors, you will find the Oral-B iO-10 toothbrush at Procter & Gamble not only a cleaning device for your teeth but also an analysis tool for your brushing habits.
CES 2022: No Trade Fair Without Curiosities
CES would not be itself if it weren’t for numerous solutions to problems at the show that you didn’t know you had before—for example, showing a tractor that can work the field without a farmer at the fair. BMW drives around on-site with a vehicle called BMW iX Flow E-Ink, which can change colors. Traced News has revealed on site what the car film is all about.
There are, of course, also innovations for the local animals this year. Petnow is, for example, able to recognize dogs by their nose and thus make chips extra in the future. The Bird Buddy is an intelligent birdhouse for the garden that triggers an alarm every time you visit and allows you to watch pecking birds via webcam.
